Here is a collection of testimonials from my students who have studied with me one-on-one, via my online classes, or have taken one or more of my photography workshops.

One-on-one Students:

Best four hours of intensive photography instruction I’ve had in 15 years as a serious enthusiast. I decided on two sessions, both two hours long with a video for my use later. They were exactly what I needed to get a real jump start in Capture One and Perfect Photo Suite and then actually begin to use the tools between sessions. I had a couple of weeks after the first session to practice and to focus in on areas where I wanted additional help in the second two-hour session. The cool thing about these online sessions was the ability to focus on exactly what I needed for my work and my experience. We talked on the phone before we started, I sent a couple of emails to try and pinpoint what I was after in these lessons, and we launched from that point. When it turned out that workflow was a critical component of my integrating two new post-processing tools that I had only generally considered, we spent a fair amount of time talking about how you set up your workflow in the first session–and then you gave me feedback in the second session about the workflow that I built after that first session. Another cool thing about this online on-on-one was the ability to jump around. You’d touch on a point, and I’d interrupt and ask about something that came to mind at that moment, and we were able to jump out of that piece and into another peripheral area to talk about that aspect of post-processing–then jump back into the lesson flow. Jumped in and out of Capture One, Photoshop, talked about Lightroom workflows and comparisons, Photo Mechanic, making panoramic images–all in the context of the larger lessons on Capture One and Perfect Photo Suite. And as time waned on the lesson, I was able to ask you to jump to another component right away so I wouldn’t miss anything I had to learn. My learning curve drove the instruction–and you just jumped from one thing to another as I needed and asked, so it was instruction with real context. This–for me–is a great way for an experienced photographer to take his or her craft to the next level. It’s focused by me, but totally flexible so I can add/delete/make turns–go where I need to go “on the fly” as the lessons unfold. This is truly a case with new processes of not knowing what you don’t know, so the initial plan changes as one’s knowledge grows and/or new material creates new questions. Truly tailored instruction. Recommend multiple two-hour sessions. One hour is not enough even if one plans multiple sessions–which I recommend so you have the time to practice in between. Two hours, at least for me, gave me plenty of understanding without being overwhelming. I then took the two weeks in between sessions, used the video for reminders–and practiced/experimented. Your cost for this online instruction is extremely reasonable and fair, especially for the quality and quantity of truly focused learning I took from the sessions. No way I could have done this in a busy classroom. Thanks, Matt. Be back to you in a few months after I get my feet on the ground with the basics and run a few thousand images through the process. Good luck with the show. Cheers, Jim

"I found Matt’s one on one tutorial session was a perfect format for me to learn HDR. Matt’s warm and personal approach immediately put me at ease. Matt perfectly sized my skill level and personalized the pace so the information flow maximized my absorption of the subject I was able to interrupt and ask questions whenever I needed without concerns of interrupting a class. This really accentuated my climbing of the learning curve. Matt is a skilled teacher and made it “All about ME”. In two hours time Matt led me from neophyte to knowledgable user. I can’t imagine a more efficient way to enhance my photographic skills. The followup recording of our session provided positive reinforcement solidifying my new found expertise. I consider it a true value and a hyper efficient methodology for skill transfer. I will be using Matt’s skills as an expert teacher again. I look forward to our next session."

Perfect Photo Suite Crash Course students:

Barbara - from MN who took the Tempe, AZ 2015 April class

"This really did exceed my expectations. First day was great but the second day was a WOW. I learned so much. The size of the workshop was perfect... I would highly recommend this workshop. Best workshop ever! I went from 0 to 60 in one weekend."

Steve H.

"[This class] exceeded my expectations. Getting 16 hours of instruction for less than $20 an hour is a real bargain...other than the folks at on1, I am confident that no one knows more about the actual use of the software."

Student from the Tempe AZ 2015 April class

"This met all of my expectations. Being relatively new to all of this, it's what I wanted... I think the 2-day training was right on. Your emphasis on important facets of on1 reflects your understanding of this great tool."

Randy - from AZ who took the Tempe, AZ 2015 class

"Great to get to work along instead of just watch. Great to have one-on-one help! Good job keeping the pace for the whole class - you managed the group and schedule well. Great work taking questions and addressing specific needs. I strongly recommend if you want to bake in your learning with live practice and one-on-one instruction."

Perfect Photo Suite class student

"It made me interested in going even further into photo editing than I had expected it would."

Richard - Tampa, FL

"This was the class I was looking for. I had been using Perfect Photo for about a year and had watched some of the video presentations but did not really have the feel I wanted for the program. I had been searching for several months for someone to teach a face-to-face class and finally came upon Matt after seeing a link through on1’s emails. This was a crash course but it was perfect. Great explanations and demonstrations with plenty of time to ask questions and receive one-on-one time when needed. Matt’s experience as photographers and users of the software was very evident. It’s nice to have someone who actually uses a program in real life situations instead of a company representative. After sitting through this class, I can now start to do more with my photos and use Matt’s and on1’s videos as refreshers to the class. I now have a better understanding of the capabilities of the program and what I want to do or need to do with my photos."

The workshop is well paced and Matt is a very knowledgable instructor."

Better Landscape Photos With Lightroom online class students:

Dennis Fitzpatrick

I like the format. It is useful to apply the techniques immediately to the photos. That format is a good learning tool. I plan on using and experimenting with the techniques on many photos in my catalog.

Linda Spata

I liked that the lessons built on one another and the consistent way you move through each image. I also like that I can play with the same images.

Jim Curry

Really pleased with step-by-step instructions, including images, so that I'm able to process the images. I also like the quick responses to question I had. There was nothing I didn't like about this class.

Glen Hirshberg

I liked hearing your thought process from start to finish on the photo... really enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone
